One point that makes the after-effects specifically hard is the feeling of shame that often accompanies enduring a self-destruction attempt, Duckworth said."If you've ever really felt shame, you know how tender your feelings are," he included.


That's why it's important to approach discussions about self-destruction without judgment, said Dr. Anita Everett, supervisor of the Facility for Psychological Wellness Solutions for the Material Misuse and Psychological Wellness Solutions Management. For instance, As opposed to chastising loved ones for missing out on treatment, ask if they need aid with transport.
